Author: horimatsu

Started tattooing in 1991 and has been pursuing the craft ever since.
Some eight years ago he opened up to the influence of Irezumi, the Japanese traditional tattoo, and this has led him down a path towards where he stands today. In the present he is solely devoted to the traditions surrounding the practice of Irezumi (also called Horimono) and studies hard in order to reach even higher levels. This includes the study of Ukiyo-e, japanese culture and history, buddhism (zen and other practises in Japan) as well as Shinto.
He also practises photography. This is pursued in the very same manner as every other phenomena, using the same foundations that supports the tradition of Irezumi. Horimatsu frequently visits Japan in order to deepen his understanding of Japanese culture, both ancient and modern. In the practise of tattooing Horimatsu works much like the Japanese traditional tattooists (Horishi),
which includes working both with the electrical machine and Tebori (traditional japanese tattooing using hand tools).

In the autumn of 2009 he co-founded Kofuu-Senju, a book publishing enterprise, together with his good friend Horikitsune (Alex Reinke).

Horimatsu lives and work in Umeå, Sweden.
