To read about Zen is not to be confused with practising Zen, or even understanding anything really. Nevertheless, for us westerners, it seems more probable that we will take on the challenge of anything if we are intellectually informed and reassured before starting. It’s OK. My meditation cushion lives a dusty lonely life most of the time. I forget, I skip, I try to ignore what needs to be done. I am both the Hare and the Tortoise. I look funny that way, spiritually speaking.
However, reading about these matters can make you feel good and that is a good start. Some of you will go further and some will not. Either way is fine in my book. It’s Your life.

What the truth is, noone can say, because the truth isent words
Hi Matti,
Great pictures and thoughts as usual.
Here is another book that you may well enjoy:
Zen in the art of Archery:- Eugen Herrigel, ISBN – 0-14-019074-0
It’s inspired me a lot!
Cheers Nige
A really inspiring list of books. Have you got the e-mail I sent you about writing an article or two for Zendo? Give it a thought – you have a way with words
As Zen Master Ummon said when he sat down to give a teisho in front of the monks:
If the masters of old could see me now – what a laughing stock I would be. Confusing your minds with words. And still this is what I have to do…
And an other book for your list (if you haven’t read it yet):
Wild Ivy: The Spiritual Autobiography of Zen Master Hakuin
